I’m realizing that there is a theme to these “GetItToDamnGether” posts. That theme being that we aren’t who we are in so much as we become who we are and the role our “failures” play in that process.
Continuing that theme, here’s Conan O’Brien’s commencement speaker at Dartmouth this year and in addition to being hilarious, his speech is amazingly insightful and teaches a lesson that I wish I had known when I received my undergraduate degree in 2006. That lesson in a nutshell, “It is our failure to become our perceived ideal, that ultimately defines us and makes us unique.”
I highly recommend the full video but the transition from comedy to insightfulness happens at about the 16:08 mark
